What are the benefits of reducing waste

There are many ways school systems can proactively shape their recycling and waste management programs. By reducing waste and recycling, the school can save money, energy and natural resources. It's also a fantastic way to teach students how reducing, reusing and recycling waste can affect their school, community and the environment.

Bottle rubbish - calculation example:

Assuming that every student in Germany consumes two drinks per week from PET bottles and throws them in the class rubbish: That would be A garbage heap of an unbelievable 800 million plastic bottles per school year!

Across the EU, we have 29.3 million students - only in primary schools. These alone would "dispose of" 2.34 billion plastic bottles per year in school (that is: 29.3 x 40 school weeks x 2 bottles = 2.34 billion bottles! Drinking tap water specifically helps to avoid rubbish!

Water and the environment - the three most important steps at your school

  1. Awareness of the protection and sustainable use of water resources create in children and adolescents
  2. Avoid garbage and dispose of it properly - Where can we avoid rubbish at school, do everyone know how to separate rubbish and how to properly dispose of rubbish?
  3. Drink tap water! Become a water school, become a disposable plastic-free school or a plastic-free class!
