Is college really just a business?

Although Miami has already suffered a loss to Clemson, the goal of the ACC Championship is still achievable. Quarterback D’Eriq King fits an average of over 261 yards, runs around 60 yards per run and has already recorded 18 touchdowns for his Hurricanes. The dynamic playmaker cannot afford to slip up and must also hope for help from other teams if he wants to lead the Florida team into the final of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Hokies was hit in the pit of the stomach last weekend

Virginia Tech started the season with great expectations and two wins. Since then, defeat has changed to victory. With inconsistent performance, they are now at 4-3. Last week they suffered the final blow to the pit of their stomach. They lost to the Liberty Flames as favorites in the last second. First, they blocked the game-winning field goal and carried the ball into the end zone to victory. The great jubilation was followed by disillusionment. Head Coach Justin Fuente took a timeout to "icen" the Flames' kicker. So the result of the move was invalid. Liberty got another chance and this time sank the field goal attempt between the goal posts.

The Hokies lost the game and with it the last hope for the championship in their conference. With a good deal of anger in their stomach, there is only one way to make sense of this messed up season. Spit in the soup of the competition and qualify with a positive record for a lucrative bowl game at the end of the year. Virginia Techs players want to apply for their future in the NFL on the side.

Key Matchup: Darrisaw vs. Miami's Pass Rush

Above all, Christian Darrisaw should be mentioned. Despite the shaky results of his team, he is one of the big climbers this season. The offensive tackle is tall and very athletic. He's continuously improving his footwork. So far he has been playing much more stable in the lower body than in the previous year. The duel with Miami will meet him in its impressive form. Against the Edge Defenders Quincy Roche and Jaelan Phillips, he faces other potential NFL starters. Above all, the agile and agile Roche will puncture him again and again, to which Darrisaw has to find answers. The defensive end is inconsistent, but shows its special qualities as a speed rusher depending on the situation.

But Jaelan Phillips makes the biggest leap. After several injuries, he missed the entire 2019 season and moved from the west coast to Miami for his senior year. It was only when star defender and possible top five draft pick Gregory Rousseau decided to suspend last season that Phillips got a starting place at all. The former 5 * star recruit has since made the best of his opportunities. He's the complete pass rusher NFL Defensive Coordinator would want if he finally stays healthy. He wants to put constant pressure on the offensive line around Darrisaw and quarterback Hendon Hooker.

Firepower of the ‘Canes is remarkable

If the Hokies can hold on to the line of scrimmage, they have a chance to defeat the favorite. Because of the pure firepower, the Hurricanes should be superior to them. D’Eriq King is a great college quarterback. It's explosive and very difficult to spot with a strong arm. His ball placement has evolved. Scouts wonder, however, whether that is now enough. There are still many avoidable mistakes in his game that cast doubt on seeing the next Kyler Murray on the field.

A so-called “breakout game” in the jersey of the Hurricanes would certainly help the under six feet tall quarterback to position himself belatedly for the quarterback discussion in the upcoming draft. Since losing to Clemson in early October, however, he has had to forego the support of tight end Brevin Jordan. After four weeks of abstinence, the model athlete is now back fully recovered.

All eyes will be on the star in head coach Manny Diaz's team. Despite excellent systems and excellent receiving capabilities, Jordan has so far lacked statistical production in numbers on the field. In the linebacker corps of the Hokies, nobody will be able to hold a candle to him in one-on-one. An overweight that Miami has to take advantage of.

It will be an exciting Saturday evening

Virginia Tech will fight hard at the beginning. But at some point the attack around D’Eriq King and Brevin Jordan received one or two light drives. After the fatal defeat against Liberty, the defense will collapse. Some will argue that the Hokies always fought their way back after defeat. But they haven't been able to cope with offensives with the possibility of a shootout for a few years. It will therefore be a long controversial game. Ultimately, the favorite with talent and playmaker skills will prevail against the home team. Neutral fans can still look forward to a thrilling game with lots of points and tough stakes on Saturday evening.
