Who is the tallest man in the world

Robert Wadlow, the greatest person of all time

Robert Wadlow was the greatest person of all time. He was born on February 22, 1918 in Alton, Illinois and died on July 15, 1940 in Manistee Township, Michigan. So he was 22 years old. He was the first child of five. His siblings and his parents are all normal sizes.

It grew and grew and grew. At the age of four he was 1.63 meters, by the age of 10 he was 2.00 meters tall and weighed 100 kilograms. At 13 he was already 2.24 meters tall. All of this was due to a pituitary adenoma. It is a benign tumor on the pituitary gland. This releases large amounts of growth hormones. The disease affects around one in 1,000 people.

The hallmarks of this disease are sudden headaches and severe visual disturbances. If the tumor is hormone-active, even the hormones get mixed up because of this lump on the gland. Many hormonal processes are controlled by the pituitary gland, such as growth, egg maturation in women and the process of childbirth.

Nowadays, doctors can use therapy with special drugs to completely cure the tumor. For most, however, only surgery will help. At the time, however, this procedure was very difficult because the exact location of the tumor was not known. Years of research have shown that magnetic resonance imaging can determine the exact location.

As the tallest person, he was included in the Guiness Book of Records. He also had the largest hands and feet. It was 32.2 centimeters from the wrist to the tip of the middle finger. His feet were 47 centimeters long. This corresponds to shoe size 76.

That wasn't nice, though, because the rapid growth wasn't good for his bones. They were harmed and he needed greaves for support. Robert Wadlow died of infection at the age of 22. He was measured on the faculty of Washington University in St. Louis 18 days before his death. He was 2.72 meters tall and weighed 199 kilograms. On his 21st birthday it was still 223 kilograms. Accordingly, his coffin was 3.28 meters long.

In memory of the greatest man of all time, there is a three-meter-high statue in his place of birth, Alton.

In contrast, the smallest man in the world is two feet tall. The difference between the tallest and the smallest person is 2.12 meters.
