Is there a saint who lives

What does it mean that the Holy Spirit is indwelling?

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the action by which God is permanently drawn into the body of believers who believe in Jesus Christ. In the Old Testament the Spirit came and went over believers in order to qualify them for a task, but not necessarily in order to remain with them permanently (see Judges 15:14; 1 Chronicles 12:18; Psalm 51:11; Ezekiel 11.5). Jesus revealed to his disciples the new role of the Spirit of truth: “He abides with you and will be in you” (John 14:17). Apostle Paul writes: “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you and which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought at a high price; therefore praise God with your body ”(1 Corinthians 6: 19-20).

These verses tell us that the believer in Jesus Christ has the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, dwelling in him. When one accepts Christ as personal Savior, the Holy Spirit gives the believer the life of God, eternal life according to his nature (Titus 3: 5; 2 Peter 1: 4), and the Holy Spirit comes and lives spiritually in this believer. The fact that the believer's body is compared to a temple where the Holy Spirit lives helps us understand the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The word temple is used for the Holy of Holies, the most sacred place of the tabernacle in the Old Testament. God's presence then appeared in a cloud and met the high priest, who went to the holy of holies once a year. On the day of atonement, the high priest brought the blood of a sacrificed animal and dripped it on the mercy seat of the Ark of the Covenant. On this special day, God granted forgiveness to the priest and his people.

Today there is no longer a Jewish temple in Jerusalem and the animal sacrifices are over. The believer who believes in Christ became the inner holiest of holies of God, the Holy Spirit, because the believer was forgiven by the blood of Jesus Christ and was thereby sanctified (Ephesians 1: 7). The believer becomes the seat of the Holy Spirit from God. Scripture also says that Jesus Christ is spiritually resident in the believer (Colossians 1:27) and from God the Father (1 John 4:15) - the Trinity is involved.

In dwelling in a believer, the Holy Spirit brings some life-changing results:

1) The spirit comes to a soul dead in sin and creates new life (Titus 3: 5). This is the new birth and renewal in the Holy Spirit that Jesus spoke about in John 3: 1-8.

2) The indwelling spirit affirms the believer that he belongs to the Lord and is an inheritance from God and a common inheritance with Christ (Romans 8: 15-17).

3) The indwelling Spirit institutes the new believer as a member of Christ's global church. This is the baptism of the Spirit according to 1 Corinthians 12:13.

4) The indwelling spirit gives spiritual gifts / graces (God-given abilities for Christian service) to believers in order to edify the church and to be able to effectively serve the Lord for his glory (1 Corinthians 12:11).

5) The indwelling spirit helps the believer to understand and apply the scriptures in daily life (1 Corinthians 2:12).

6) The indwelling spirit enriches the believer's prayer and is his advocate in prayer (Romans 8: 26-27).

7) The indwelling spirit enables the devotee to live and do his will for Christ (Galatians 5:16). The track guides the believer in the ways of righteousness (Romans 8:14).

8) The indwelling spirit gives evidence of new life by allowing the fruit of the spirit to flourish in the believer's life (Galatians 5: 22-23).

9) The indwelling spirit grieves when believers sin (Ephesians 4:30) and awakens the believer's conscience to confess sins to the Lord so that fellowship with God may be restored (1 John 1: 9).

10) The indwelling spirit seals the believer until the day of salvation so that the believer's arrival after the present life with God is guaranteed in eternity (Ephesians 1: 13-14).

When one accepts Christ as his Savior and Redeemer (Romans 10: 9-13), the Holy Spirit draws into one's heart and brings with it a whole new life of love, relationship and Christian service to the Lord.
