Temperature records for the past 65 years

The hottest temperature measured from 1955 to October 2020 was reported by the Belize Phillip Goldson Airp weather station. In March 2003 the record temperature of 37.3 ° C was reported here. The hottest summer from July to September, based on all 2 weather stations in Belize below 10 meters above sea level, was recorded in 1958 with an average temperature of 29.2 ° C. This average temperature is usually recorded every 4 to 6 hours, including the nights. Normally this value is 28.2 degrees Celsius.

The weather station Belize Phillip Goldson Airp reported the coldest day in these 65 years. Here the temperature dropped to 12.5 ° C in January 2001. Belize Phillip Goldson Airp is located at a height of 5 meters above sea level. The coldest winter (January to March) was in 1978 with an average of 23.5 ° C. It is common in Belize to have about 1.5 degrees more at 25.0 ° C for this three-month period.

Long-term development of temperatures from 1998 to 2019

In contrast to individual record values, a long-term development cannot simply be brought about over all weather stations in the country. Both the number and the locations are constantly changing. A simply calculated average value would produce a falsified result. If several measuring stations are added in a year in particularly cold mountain or coastal regions, this alone would reduce the average. If a station fails over the summer or winter months, it does not provide any values and falsifies the average again. The subsequent long-term development was therefore reduced to only 1 measuring point in order to actually have comparable data over the longest possible period.

From 1998 to 2019 there were only these 1 weather stations in the whole country that reported continuous temperature values (Belize Phillip Goldson). From these weather reports we have created a long-term development that shows the monthly average temperatures. The hottest month in this entire period was 2019 with 29.7 ° C. 2010 was the coldest month with an average of 22.2 ° C.

The annual average temperature in the years after 1998 was around 26.7 ° C and in the last years before 2019 it was around 27.2 ° C. So it has increased moderately by around 0.5 ° C over the past 22 years. This tendency only applies to the selected 1 weather stations in Belize. We have provided a considerably more extensive evaluation of the global temperature rise separately.
